When disaster strikes, recovery doesn’t end when the headlines fade. For many families, businesses, and communities, the hardest part begins afterward.
The Alleghany County Long Term Recovery Group was formed to help our community recover, rebuild, and move forward together following disasters like Hurricane Helene and other major hardships affecting our mountain region. Made up of local leaders, volunteers, nonprofits, churches, agencies, and community partners, our mission is simple: connect people with resources, coordinate recovery efforts, and make sure no one has to face recovery alone.
Our work focuses on long-term solutions, not short-term fixes. That means helping families navigate unmet needs, supporting rebuilding efforts, connecting volunteers and donations where they are needed most, and strengthening the systems that help our community become more resilient for the future.
Alleghany County has always been a place where neighbors help neighbors. The Long Term Recovery Group exists to bring that spirit together in an organized, effective way so that recovery reaches every corner of our community.
We believe recovery is more than repairing structures. It’s restoring hope, stability, and the sense of community that makes these mountains home.
